A new study using data from the Gaia mission reveals that the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is being significantly distorted by gravitational forces from the Large Magellanic Cloud, exhibiting a lack of coherent rotation and demonstrating a stretched, pulled-apart structure as revealed by the positions and motions of its massive stars.
