The quest for a saliva biobank
Scientists at the Mayo Clinic and collaborators have created the first large biobank of salivary gland organoids – miniature, lab-grown structures mimicking real glands – providing a valuable resource for understanding and potentially restoring saliva production. This breakthrough, incorporating detailed clinical annotations and insights into stem cell behavior and protein markers, offers a path towards therapies for dry mouth caused by cancer treatment, autoimmune conditions, and other factors.
