Can psilocybin ease Parkinson’s symptoms?
A groundbreaking clinical trial at UCSF has explored the potential of psilocybin therapy for Parkinson’s disease patients experiencing mood dysfunction. The pilot study, involving 12 participants, showed improvements in depression, anxiety, motor function, and cognitive flexibility, with no serious adverse effects. While larger trials are needed, these initial results suggest psilocybin could offer a novel approach to treating the emotional and cognitive burdens associated with Parkinson’s.
